It feels a lot shorter than the last two parts and kinda lacking in the content department. The story is meh, the gameplay is more of the same except just less of it. Feel a lot like a DLC in some ways. It might be worth it if you are a completionist type who enjoys collecting everything on the map, which I am not. It's one of those middle of the road games that that I'd recommend IF you liked the previous games AND the game is on sale.. This game was a mixed bag for me. Some parts were good, some were meh. Some mechanics worked better in some places.tl;dr version: Fun game with some flaws, but some really cool moments! It is worth playing for the fans of the trilogy, and I think people who refused to play the reboot might want to give this one a go. The most Tomb raider-ish of the 3 imo. If you're new to the trilogy, i recommend starting from the 2013 reboot. I got it 50% and I recommend it based on thatSince this is a reboot series, I think there will always be comparisons. So I'll compare to both the OG, and the previous two in the reboot series:Compared to originals: I think this is the closest we've gotten to them in the trilogy. Lara is finally somewhat stronger and more confident, and goes prepared (although she does have to start from zero a couple of times). Tombs and Crypts, there are a lot of those and I think are best parts of the game.Compared to reboot and Rise: It takes a lot from those as expected, and adds some mechanics in climbing and combat, I enjoyed this one more in that regard. But other things suffer like the story, narrative and pacing. The detail and lore are amazing, but idk it felt more like a documentary than an exciting story for me.My highlights:- Really pretty graphics!- Water and swimming felt good.- Custumizable difficulity: Individually choose if you want combat, platforming or puzzles to be more challenging.- I enjoyed solving puzzles while all the assitance was turned off.- Many beautiful vistas made me just stand there and appreciate, PLUS you get a Photo Mode this time, and I had a lot of fun with that.- Did I mention Photo Mode?- There were less combat encounters and I actually enjoyed them, while they were my least favorite part in the previous two. Lara is scary in this game lolMy critique:- I mentioned pretty graphics, yes, but often too dark, and increasing brightness will make other areas too bright! No torch like in previous games, there is a flash light, but you can't turn it on, only when Lara wants to. Idk why they did that?- Platforming felt somewhat less solid, and combined with very dark areas, it was frustrating at times, and sometimes tedious.- Too many limitations and things that get in the way. Sometimes you're stuck using a bow, sometimes you can only wear certain outfits, too many of those sections where Lara squezzes herself through gaps in walls or crawling under rocks.- Fishes attacking while swimming is just annoying. You can at least fight the eel.- You get outfits by clearing Crypts or buying them from merchants, they provide stat bonuses, but they're just basically peices of rags and just look ugh... I get it, it is supposed to be rough and realistic, but that is about the only realistic thing in the game. Like come on give me cool looking armour I want to work for and wear! The one with the feathers looks cool though.- I've already talked about the story. Can't really put my finger on it, but I wasn't really invested, Lara still felt a bit lost, Jonah was being useless as usual. The best character was the kid imo.- QTEs, chase sequences, running sequences were my least favorite part in the game! Since platforming can already be a bit of trial and error (I was playing with all assistance turned off), those were really annoying. In conclusion:It is an okay game, with some great moments! And some bad moments. As someone who has enjoyed both original and reboot TR game, I enjoyed this too and I think it is worth playing for both parties.I hear this is the last in the trilogy, and my hope, and I am a bit biased, whatever dev team responsible is to pull off a CAPCOM on us and get back or get to the good old Lara! The classy, the professional, the gymnast Lara. And no it is not about the boobs like many people assume whenever OG Lara is brought up. Think of it as a case of DmC Dante (Donte) VS DMC Dante.. Note: This review will be edited to reflect the (as of 5/31/19) unreleased final DLC for Season Pass holders.Having recently finished Shadow of the Tomb Raider to 100% achievement completion and given myself a few days to sit on my thoughts for this review, I feel comfortable enough to try and reflect fully on this conclusion to Lara Croft's origin story. This being billed as the game where you finally "become the Tomb Raider" put expectations extremely high (seriously, we've been waiting five years for this!). And while I can wholeheartedly recommend this game, for both diehard reboot-Tomb Raider fans and those who just want a solidly fun action-adventure romp that will show off the great potential of their shiny new graphics card, I'm not sure Eidos Montréal and Crystal Dynamics truly hit their mark here. Let me explain, starting with what I can absolutely praise Shadow of the Tomb Raider for, starting with (as always with this reboot series, it seems-): Camilla Luddington's voice work. She is a tour de force here, bringing such nuance and layering to Lara that we just really haven't seen before. Luddington has had some beautiful moments in Rise, but here, with Shadow, her performance is just captivating from beginning to end. Just as we are stepping into the shoes of a much more experienced and practiced Lara, she reflects this with a measured vocal presence, from start to finish. Earl Baylon (who returns as Lara's friend Jonah Maiav) also does extremely well in his supporting role, with their chemistry making for the most gripping of prologue scenes I've ever witnessed in the Tomb Raider trilogy. Scenes like the one I've mentioned are plentiful, which brings me to another thing I can commend Shadow for: its commitment to telling an emotionally charged story.Even from the outset, you can just tell something is different about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, from the developer's opening statement, to a much slower prologue than what we've had previously before our story begins proper. What this does is allows for more moments centered on the characters than ever before, which gives us some great time with our favorite heroine and the people that surround her. While you'll still find the usual action set-pieces, interspersed with them are these great quieter moments of reflection between characters. In fact, my complaints with Tomb Raider (2013), in which I said that aside from Lara, none of the characters felt memorable, thankfully do not apply here. I can remember all of the major players by name, and I believe that is owed to the fact that each of them got the screen time that they deserved. I truly felt like I was going on a journey where the stakes were high, and the outcome truly mattered. It's a shame, then, that its climax was not realized fully. I really don't know what happened with Shadow of the Tomb Raider's third act. While playing on Deadly Obsession difficulty (and therefore playing the same final section over and over), I realized just how flat the final confrontation falls. Without spoiling anything, I can say that after five years of buildup to this moment, it just wasn't as epic and satisfying as I think we deserved. It's... fine, I guess? But I really feel like a much better conclusion (with a deservedly larger scope) could have been had.The game itself runs at about 14 hours, with each of the seven DLC adding on about an hour to that time. Combat is a finely tuned machine of stealth and all-out offensive, with traversal being a highlight and a joy to experience. It's hard to go back to the previous games after knowing all the tricks Lara has up her sleeve for her final outing. While you'll still have moments where you could have sworn you timed that quick-time event just right, there is much less room for error here and gameplay feels much more forgiving in that respect. You can also tune elements (such as holding as opposed to repeatedly pressing) for ease of access in Shadow's moment-to-moment gameplay, as well as individually change difficulty settings for combat, exploration, and puzzles. Graphically, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is just an absolute marvel, with sweeping vistas, imposing caverns and incredible interior lighting. There's even a certain place in the story that just feels like a tech-demo for dust particles! The devs have done such beautiful work here, and while I miss the colder climates that Rise presented, this take on Central America is truly impressive as well. Also available is a fairly robust photo mode, complete with poses and filters, where you can spend hours on end lining up the perfect shot, or just taking in the beautiful sights.https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1651933763While Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't quite give the conclusion I was hoping for, it's still a great ending to Lara's origins. Maybe pick it up on sale if you just want a flashy new AAA game to add to your collection. The journey itself is absolutely worth a buy if you consider yourself a fan of the reboot series.. Yet another masterpiece by square Enix. After playing TR 2013 and rise, I got a feeling that the franchise is getting well developed one after another. Here is what I feel about this game: Improvements :1. SOTTR is definitely among one of the first games that take the full advantage of Direct X 12 and real time ray tracing technology. Playing on 1440p monitor with RTX 2070, which enables a high ray traced shadow preset and ultra graphics setting, there is no way to not appreciate the level of visual details. Zoom in in the photographer mode, and you will find out how detailed the texture and model is.2. The water quality, both surface reflection and underwater effects, are absolutely amazing. I was blown away the first time I see that in game. It sometimes makes me wonder why there are so many underwater portions in the game. Figured that they need to showoff how good it is.3. Enough for the graphics, let's talk about the combat system: F1 F2 F3 F4 button are mapped with herbs like Witcher potions. Simple but effective. They were not in the previous gens, which is quite innovative. The traps and the venom arrows are real fun here. Screw the enemy pretty bad. I literally lol when I see enemies shooting at their friends, dang.4.Nice to have all the previous gens outfits. You even got TR 13 Lara, even the... pixel one for... hardcore players.5. The merchandise system is now well developed, which means you can control your resources more efficiently.Downside:1. The game need a better optimization!!! DX11 is basically unplayable while DX12 push CPU way to hard in the city area. Games with more NPCs like Assassin Creed have a lot better optimization. The game is rendering way too many stuffs. The GPU load is quite high even in the letter examination screen2. I wish there could be a mini map. Navigating in major cities is really boring and painful. I had to check map once every 30 sec and rush the collectibles and side quests just to get out of the town.3. Why NPCs looks all the same? And they doesn't look alive. I literally just picked a side quest form a guy and saw a merchant with the same face somewhere else... Story breaking...4. Multiple NPCs yelling something in Paititi over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again!Merchant don't have to repeat the same thing every time I have a good sold, because I have to hear them 20 times when I need to sell all my crap.5. I don't have anything else about downside other than me firing 80+ bullets with an assault rifle trying to hunt an Empress Jaguar. I feel its pain alright. Thanks for reading my review. I know they are trying to make a open world game, but number of NPCs doesn't make much difference. It's all about quality. If Square Enix is seeing this, thank you for bring a such beautiful game to us, and you got my cheers and advice!. game doesn't load properly. sound, no picture. black screen. Late to the party as I was waiting for a discount and I was kind of vindicated in my decision. I'm not the review writing type but I enjoyed the last few titles and I had to air my disappointment. Long story short if you liked the other games then buy on a deep discount or perhaps avoid as I shall outline:The long story: I see what they were trying to do but I'm struggling to keep engaged with the story, as your forced to watch a lot of cut scenes and character dialog. The pace of the last few titles was quite snappy and yipped along quite nicely driven quite often by action. This instalment sh*ts the bed early, the stakes are raised right from the offset and there is a loss of build up. However at the same time Its sense of urgency is confused with this strangle linear / non linear / open world vibe that just feels a bit confused and messed with for what seems like a half arsed attempted to expand features but not really commit whole sale to. Gameplay: Swimming, if you like swimming you'll love Tom Raider air pocket hunter! Stealth, but stealth which seems unrewarding and repetitive, if you get spotted you just tumble around these tight knit little jungle maps like a numpty and that nice feeling of gun play, picking off a head shot from behind cover isn't completely gone but its diluted in the worse way... Stealth should be rewarded and not Forced on you, unarmed stealth sections just made me reload check points a lot, to the point I've lost the will to play at times ... by extension the diluted combat has rendered the skill tree bland and barely worth having, supplies everywhere but you fight no one for large portions of the opening 2/3 hours plus what else do you take damage from? I guess you do get shot in the forced stealth sections, oh and having to constantly *ding* your survival instincts because you have to check if an enemy is in line of sight is really counter to feeling immersed in the game. Yeah the Stealth can quite frankly go insert something into an unseen place thank you, check your survival instincts if you get lost.I realise this is somewhat focused on combat, but I can't for the life of me remember any puzzle elements, they were there I think? meh says it all really I'm gonna struggle to focus on this gameShame as talented people have worked hard on this and I don't like being negative, it looks great, there is a little ray tracing spice for your RTX card, but when you're excited by cast shadows and otherwise just bored then it gets a thumbs down, sorry. Will probably live in the memory of 2019 for bench marking purposes alone. I was a lil dissapointed in the rise of tomb raider but tbh this game improved alot more than ppl think like the experience and world of the game was so much more diversed and graphics were so on point it was such a serreal experience for me than the games before and the combat style felt alot better for some reason tho i wish they added something like the baba yaga DLC cus i rly rly enjoyed the DLC more than anything in the first and second games of tomb raider ,and i felt like we finally met lara on more of a personal and emotional level it rly did hit me especially in that break down scene she had . but also the storyline is kinda repetitive which i get why ppl found it a lil boring ? tho thats lara's life thats what she does so they cant change the plot wholesome tho as i said before they added a better emotional experience and more sneak into her past life and lara was acting more of a human being rather than this basic tough dull video games characters we mostly see and i guess there was some tiny lil glitches if you wanna call it that but nothing big i had no problem playing the game easily on a hard mode its so easy to move past those and getting used to the controls more, well also the tombs were a lil easier than the ones before especially that i had no hints solving them they warent that brilliant or a gud upgrade than the series before.ok i will shut up now bye <3. Very immersive experience, really brings you into the story. Good game mechanics. If you like story-based games you would enjoy this game.. First off, stunning graphics! I can’t compare to the first two titles in this series because I never played them; I liked the storyline and stealth-action style gameplay. For me, it took about 12 hours to complete the story mode while doing some side missions. Maybe one day I’ll go back and complete this 100% 😅 SRPG Studio 1.197 Update Released!: Hello, everyone! We have now released version 1.197.New Features:.
